Timing

Feb 16th, 2017, 18:32 PM   #1

Was wondering when you ladies time things with opks. We have an added factor of my OH having limited stamina at the moment so only manage to dtd twice each fertile window if we are lucky. Do you wait til you have a positive opk or do you time it before then? I tend to get a pos opk on day 12 or 13, although my last cycle was shorter cos of weight loss (26 days instead of 28), which is confusing me. So am thinking of timing it for day 11 (tomorrow) and 13 this month... does that sound like a good idea?

Also, I temp and my temp never goes up until about 16th or 17th, which is usually 3 days after I think I ovulate.

Would appreciate any advice! Thanks. xx

If you wanted to dtd twice then I would recommend to dtd when you get positive opk and if you check your cm, if it is egg white/stretchy as this will be your most fertile window. Trying to dtd before positive opk would be tricky if you are only planning on DTD twice but then on the other hand, waiting for positive opk...you run the risk of missing your surge which sometimes only lasts a few hours.

If you do get a positive opk and then dtd tand maybe the day after. You are then likely to ovulate the day or two after your surge. Your temperature should rise day after you ovulate, I think.

To confuse matters the EWCM starts on day 8! Think we can only manage every other day as well in terms of energy.

sounds like a plan. The sperm hangs around for a few days anyway so as long as you dtd couple of times during your fertile window that might be enough....then it's just playing the waiting game!

If you can manage every other day google SMEP (sperm meets egg plan). It gets a bit more frequent round ov but I always found the principle helpful. Good luck!

How old are you Sunflower? There is some suggestion that younger ladies ovulate much later than their positive opk (often a couple of days later), whereas older ladies often ovulate right after getting it, so a matter of hours after getting the positive. I'm 35 and I ovulate within 6-9 hours after getting my positive opk if that is any help. My temp would also take a couple of days to rise afterwards, but I have had it confirmed by scans that that is what is happening and I'm right with when I ovulate.

Just jointing this thread for a wee bit if that's ok? I am 41 as I had been wondering how longer after LH surge I might ovulate. Had the surge yesterday around 1pm and at 6pm (opk and had solid smiley on can) but opk was negative this morning. We dtd last night (and every other night over the last week....we are exhausted now!). Last night dtd was a bit uncomfortable as had cramps on my lower abdomen that were quite painful during intercourse so wondering if this might have been ovulation? Temperature up 0.3 this morning and I would expect it to rise again tomorrow.

I was interested in what you were saying about older women ovulating right after getting the surge....this would certainly explain the cramps!

I'm 41 but in the past I seem to get ovulation pains 24hrs after positive opk, but then my temp takes 3 days to go up.

Melly, the pains could well be ovulation. It's worth dtd the same day as ovulation too if you can manage.
