Using donor - ovulating !?

Feb 24th, 2014, 16:52 PM   #1
My husband died of leukaemia some years ago - he had azoospermia when we tried 10 years ago - so we used a sperm donor- I fell pregnant twice straight away but miscarried both. ( Very stressful time). husband died and I haven't been in relationship or tried since until twice last year using a clinic in another European country ( was sent in hydrgen tank) - didn't work - feel ready now but now peri menopausal. I tried last Thursday with donor sperm from clinic abroad which was sent to my home and I self insemminated. now this morning - Monday see the stretchy cervical mucous ( which is great given menopausal - but was it too early ?

I'm so sorry also for what you have been through.

I would certainly use opk's if your inseminating yourself- it's really important that you make sure your ovulating.
Could you speak to your gp or fertility specialist privately and maybe have consultation to check you are ovulating? Xx

Hi, sorry to hear about everything that has happened.

I'm using a fresh donor, so I've got a bit more flexibility with timings, but I would really recommend you using opks. I do and I also take my temperature. Temping doesn't help predict ovulation but after months of temping and using opks before starting with the donor, I've learnt how soon after opk I ovulate. I find I ovulate quite soon after my opk, but some people ovulate over a day later.

If you're using frozen sperm, you need to be careful with the timings because frozen sperm doesn't live long inside you and also the egg only lives 12-24 hrs, so it's important they're in there together when they need to be.

Good luck with it all!

I tried pming you, but if wouldn't let me. There's a thread on another forum which is full of women using frozen shipped sperm. I don't know what the rules are about mentioning other forums but I'm only doing so because there isn't anything similar on here. If you Google 'fertility friends cryos Denmark' you should find it. I think you'd read loads of tips in there on timing.

(mods, apologies if this is against t&c)
