Nov 17th, 2012, 19:35 PM   #1

Hi ladies...

Well just got a bit of a shock when I took my slipper boots off...my feel have swollen a bit I wouldnt say mega...but obviously enough to notice!! I am currently sitting with my feet up...havent been doing lots today either...so wondering why this has happened.

What do you think girls? How long do I leave my feet up to see if swelling goes down? Then do I call someone? Bit confused! Feel fine in myself apart from tiredness and achey shins. Help!! xxxxxx

My ankles are really swollen, and I have had a couple of pre- eclampsia symptoms. Nobody seems concerned except me. Just mention it to the midwife xx

Im umming and ahhing what to do...I feel okay apart from really achey legs and tingly feet. I dont think they are as swollen as they were, although still a little more than normal! Got midwife wednesday but not sure whether to just ask someone...thats why I posted on here first to see if anyone else has had swelling then put their feet up and it been fine. xxx

Same Hun, I feel fine. I had slightly swollen ankles and had a lot of protine in my urine on wednesday, and I have a really sore bump. All symptoms apparently but nobody seems worried. I didn't even get antibiotics and they suspected a water infection. Flag it up tomorrow just so they know before your appointment xx

I've had swollen feet for months. I had to buy new shoes and now can't wear any old ones at all. They get worse if on feet. Mw said as long as they don't come up overnight it should be fine

At 27/28w I had swelling that was painful to touch on my leg/ankle which they wanted to check out. I was told swelling is common in pregnancy but always get checked if it becomes sore to touch. Hope it eases soon, keep your foot elevated xx

Thanks girlies. I just phoned labour ward for some advice and spoke to a really nice midwife. She said that swelling can be normal due to the added weight on your legs (which I guessed anyway) and as I dont have any other symptoms just to elevate and keep drinking plenty (which I am). Damn extra toilet trips...haha!
She said after a nights sleep...if they are still swollen just to pop up to day care to have bp checked.

Some swelling is to be expected but I would give triage a call, just in-case!

I had this last week! I was in work all day and by the end of the day I could feel my feet just didn't feel right... When I took my shoes and socks off my feet and ankles were really swollen! Triage told me to rest and keep my feet elevated. Also hubby went out and bought me some compression socks from a local sports shop, and they work really well!!

I would definitely keep an eye on it and always call if you are worried. I have been told that swelling in the feet is common in pregnancy, however swelling of the hands and face isn't really and it's that upper body swelling that is a bigger indicator of pre eclampsia. After the experience I have had over the last couple of days though I'd encourage anyone to at least get urine dipped and BP checked at any sign and if you don't feel like your symptoms are being taken seriously go to antenatal triage. I didn't realise how common pre eclampsia is in pregnancy (obviously most cases are mild) and how quickly things can change, obviously I'm probably a little over cautious and jaded right now lol but the dr's were drilling into every lady on that unit how important it was to get checked and how it is not an inconvenience to them. xxx

Hope they've gone down this morning mm. I had this earlier on in pregnancy but was normal apparently! You did the tight thing by calling and checking though x
