Getting a big sick of people's opinions and butting in!

May 31st, 2015, 09:40 AM   #1

Hi guys the past few days I feel like all I've heard is you should be doing this and you shouldn't be doing that. I know I'm no expert on things as this is my first baby but I'm pretty sure I know the main dangers to avoid if you know what I mean. Just because that is what you did doesn't mean it's right for me. I've had " are you sure you can have appletiser, is it caffeine free!" Well yes cos I have looked it up! "You should breastfeed you know it's better for you and baby" yeah but it's not what I feel comfortable with! "make sure you get your steak welldone mind!" I know!!!!! and things like that. Just wish people would butt out sometimes and let me do my own thing and make my own decisions. Anyone feel the same? I feel like I can't even order a coke cos I'll get grief! Even though a couple of cokes is perfectly fine. Grrrrrrrr! Sorry girls rant over.

Yeah I totally get what you mean. My MIL and SIL have been doing the same thing with me and quite frankly I'm tired of it. They are very superstitious which annoys me like apparently not suppose to eat watermelon or pineapple and only eat hot food no cold good but I never pay them attention. I still do it and in front of them to watch their faces. It's not like I'm eating raw fish/meat or soft cheeses. Haha

What's wrong with watermelon and pineapple? I had a ham & pineapple pizza on Friday night, should I be worried?!

I'm glad I've not had any of that overbearing behaviour yet, I'd never dream of making such comments to a pregnant lady, it's no one else's business.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with watermelon and pineapple. I even asked my mw about it because my MIl was driving me crazy. She's just a very old superstitious woman haha

I also wanted to add how jealous I am that you had a ham and pineapple pizza. Ugh I'd love one but my stomach and nose said absolutely no! Haha

You always get people like that. My brother makes comments about my drinking pepsi max but I just tell him one or 2 cans a week isn't going to do any harm and it's no different to tea or coffee from a caffeine point of view - everything in moderation.

My mum tends to tell me people worry too much about what they eat when pregnant and how she had 5 kids and ate what she liked including pate etc and all of us are fine. I am a lot more relaxed about what I eat etc since I had a miscarraige in 2012 - I was so anal about having no caffeine at all and not eating any scampi etc even though it should be fine I didn't want to risk anything and I still lost the baby. So when I got pregnant with my daughter and again currently with my son I just have what I want in moderation!

You will always get people who think they know better than you I just tell them to shut up.

What riles me more than any of these people giving advice is people who ask you if your baby was planned or if you were just crap with contraception - now that is bloody rude especially as I am a 30 year old woman with a child in a long term relationship. So annoying.

Oh and I also had my brother tell me and I quote "you are an idiot" when I announced my current pregnancy as his opinion is you shouldn't have kids so close together - nearly punched him in the face!

What is it with people. I would never dream of confronting people for what they do when pregnant it's non of my business what anyone else does. I've been quite relaxed and not overly worried or paranoid about things I'm just getting on with it. It's just when people have the odd comment cos they're overly paranoid it does my head in ha ha

I always get comments on
1. How big my bump is (I don't think its that big!)
2. Wearing high heels (physio said to stay on heels for a while as going down to flats can cause more issues)
3. Drinking coca cola (midwife said it's fine, I have at least 1 can per day but no other caffeine)

I feel your pain xx

Apparantly pineapple is one of the 'old wives tales' to induce labour - something to do with it containing bromelaine to help uterus contract. I've heard women try it when they are overdue, but I think you would have to eat several whole pineapples in one sitting for it to have any affect. I eat pineapple/drink pineapple juice occasionally and so far so good. In fact last night I had 2 big slices of pineapple with cheese on gammon steaks yum!

I am however paranoid/over cautious about MOST things during pregnancy and have to really try hard to curb my own paranoia so I totally understand your frustration when you have people telling you not to do certain things (especially uninformed superstitious things) and adding to your worry! I got told told I shouldn't have our pushchair in the house because it's bad luck We don't have a garage so no choice really! I just don't see why people feel the need to comment
Xxx

To be fair... Pineapple is one of the things that are supposed to bring on labour.

If you sit and eat like 100 of them in one go.

Prepare yourselves, ladies, the comments are just beginning. Xx

I got told by a lady at work that I shouldn't of had my roots coloured even though my hair is black & it was no-ammonia, semi-permanent on for 15/20 minutes in a well ventilated room with me having something covering my nose & mouth.

Also that I should stop wearing any makeup & deodorant as it could seep into my skin & affect the baby. I should stop doing this as it not my body anymore it's the babies.

Then to top it all off..

Got told to carry around a SPIT BUCKET for when I find myself with too much saliva in my mouth. SORRY?!

Soooo basically for the next 6 months I have to walk around with horrendous roots, no makeup on, smelling of BO & spitting into a bucket??!!

ERMMMMMM...

xx
