How big does the hospital bag need to be?

Nov 6th, 2010, 10:55 AM   #1

I know that it's a little early to be thinking about this but I was planning on getting a trolley holdall but they range massively in sizes. I'm not sure how big I will need to buy. I know there are lots of things that I'll need for me and my baby. I have my eye on a 60 litre one - is this big enough?

I don't know how big mine is in litres i'm afraid but I've just used a basic gym bag with the main bit and 2 zippy sections at the side and this has all my stuff in it with loads of room left over so it could easily fit babies stuff in if you only wanted to use one bag. For babies bag I have just used her ever day changing bag.

I've got a small-medium pulley suitcase. Like a weekend bag sized one.
After being hospitalised last week it's pushed me to pack two bags from now.
If u can, pack two lweekend bags.
One for if u go in hospital unexpectedly and one for u n baby incase u don't have time to pack it later.
There's no guarantee that u will b able to do it later like 30 weeks plus.
Get packing but gradually. Like week by week or something.

Im packing my hospital bag as of next week

Thanks lealea that sounds like a good idea. I'm 25 weeks today and even though I've told her to stay in there for at least another 12 weeks(that's when I finish work - I don't fancy going into labour in front of my y11s!) she may decide to make an early appearance. So I'll order my bag today and get started. It's very exciting!

I have one over night bag with baby things in and one gym size bag for putting my things in, and a few extra bits for hubby.

Mine is a small holdall about 2.5 foot by 1.5 foot. That has everything in for hubby and I for before and after birth and then my little man has his own bag. Just using his nappy bag for him.

I have two small gym bags, one is much smaller than the other, and that's got my section day bits in, dressing gown , slippers, one set of baby clothes, hat , couple nappies, etc everthing to start us off, then the other larger one has 3 lots more babygrow/vests more nappies, big pants for me , Mat towels , breast pads etc so hubby can leave in car and get it later in the day! (thats what they asked for at our hosp for sections, so that you don't clutter there recovery rooms with bags, till your on the ward after

My goodness I must start to think about these things - everyone on here seems so much further on than me in tri 2! Guess I will just read everyones advice for a while and soak it all in. I think I'm going to wait until after the 20 week scan to think about hospital bags xx
