Need some advise please

Aug 11th, 2006, 18:39 PM   #1

Hi all,

I have a friend who is nearly 28 weeks pregnant & is in so much pain in her lower back, hips, tops of the thighs etc and i've said to her it sounds like SPD & to tell her midwife but she really wasn't interested & said nothing more about it

Anyway she has been working as a temp for the same company for several months now & they don't give a damn that she is in constant pain.
She parks about 1.5-2 miles away from the office but finds the walk too difficult now so is being forced to park in a nearby car park at 5.00 a day. The company have a small car park so offers employees a rota system. They say Alex is not entitled to be on the rota as she is just a temp.

Does anyone know the laws for someone temping? Does the company have the right to refuse this? Do they have to do risk assessments etc or not as she is not a permanent employee?

Please help

Thank you

I'm a temp and yes they do do risk assessments. Also I cant use staff car park but can use a free one about a mile away which I choose not to and pay 5 a day for the main car park (Which I claim back) They dont have to give her access to staff parking no.

Employers had to fill in risk assessment from the agency the day I started and they will be doing a full proper one next week. The agency carry out the risk assessment.

She hasn't actually gone through an agency thats the thing. One of our friends works there & got her the job

How/who do you claim back the car park fee? Is it the company you work for Minime?

The agency charge the company.

If she's employed then its down to her employer to do a risk assessment, she should request this (some places are better and do one automatic other you have to request) under health and safety laws.

Not sure on the parking, I'm classed as an essential car user which means my job requires my own transport hence why I can claim parking fees back so it is probably different for somebody office based who isnt required to have their own car. I'd certainly speak to her manager over the issues and explain the problems, temporary workers have pretty much the same rights as permanent staff now.
