Post-birth question

Jul 8th, 2017, 17:14 PM   #1

This might seem like an odd question but what should I expect my tummy to look like the next few days/weeks after the birth?

You'll still look pregnant initially. It takes a while for everything to shrink back down and move back into place.

Thank you Emily0505. I see lots of information on how your body changes during pregnancy up until birth but I've not seen much explaining what happens after.

I was in maternity clothes for about two to three weeks after the birth and then was able to fit into a few of my pre pregnancy clothes.

In regards clothes it all depends on the sizing (which varies so much anyway) I've got some size 10 pre pregnancy clothes I fit into and some that I've got no chance of getting in to!

It can take longer for some people and less for others to get their body back. I really wouldn't worry about it though.

At two weeks post birth I looked about 4/5 months pregnant. I'm currently a 12/14 8 weeks on but I was a 10/12 pretty birth

Me at 3 weeks pre birth and 14days after birth. It's weird you're belly is all squiggly and squishy and jelly belly like then it gradually firms up. I had my 8 week check up on Friday and the doc told me my uterus hadn't quite fully gone back to previous pregnancy size yet. And I would say theres still 10-15% still jelly belly left then it's tone up and weight loss time!

I don't mind having a jelly belly after, I've never been one to worry about my body too much. What will be will be!

What's the average time for bleeding after birth?

That varies massively.

I only bled for two weeks and only the first few days were heavy but others who had their babies at the same time bled for eight weeks!

Better take a photo so you can expect the same thing with your next labour.

In contrast I went down very very quickly, but I don't think I looked very big even when pregnant.

There are 8 days between these photos (I think the second one is 3 days pp):

I gave birth a week ago now and I am in normal clothes and I just look like I have a bit of a wobbly tum, which I had before anyway! X
