Anyone tried hypnotherapy for fertility with any success?

Mar 2nd, 2018, 12:57 PM   #1

Hi all, I'm about to try a course of hypnotherapy for fertility as my natural fertility consultant thinks it will really help. I've spent the last 6 months getting as physically healthy as I can on an EXTREMELY strict diet regime and various lifestyle changes, tests, acupuncture etc but my negative thoughts around our MC's and the general issue with how long it's taking has been getting me down and she thinks that a spell of hypnotherapy might really help just getting me to focus on positivity and get me in a better place to do IVF. I've seen that some of the stats around having something like Hypnotherapy for IVF show increased chances and wondered if anyone had had it for either IVF or natural fertility with any success?

I’ve not had any experience but the more I go through myself, the more I feel fertility and state of mind have a strong connection, so I would definitely not rule it out.

Thanks ladies, how did you get on tinselcat? I have my first of 4 appointments tonight with a lady who does a whole fertility programme and is going to look at stress etc so I'm really looking forward to seeing what it can do!

I'll keep you posted!

Oh well good luck tinselcat! Do you mind me asking what your story is? I feel like I should know as I've seen you a lot on the IVF thread but I lose track with all the people you meet on here!

I've also just noticed you posted in another thread about the importance of diet and holistic therapy - it was like reading something straight out of my mouth! I couldn't agree more. I am currently on an EXTREMELY strict diet and have been for 5 months, it was 3 months after we started this that I had my chemical when it had previously been taking me a year between each pregnancy so I'd like to think somethings working and that something will stick if I stay on it!

Hey 1sttimer - I'm a single mother of 1 and unlikely to find a partner any time soon - so being nearly 40 I'm going it alone through IVF! I think I've done the egg collection process 6 times now... urghh... 3rd time was lucky for me. I recall that my diet was a lot better for that occasion (so was ex-partner's too) and had been having a lot more protein supplements than before.

After the first couple of IVFs failed, I was irritated with people who would say "don't stress and it will work out" - well if embryo is not managing to fertilise in an artificial nurturing environment then it's nothing to do with my state of mind! But I am pretty sure that there are other factors we can control through our wellbeing.

I am going through a stressful few months, so the timing isn't ideal but I don't want to wait too much longer as there will always be something stressful going on for me during 2018.

I've been on these boards since Jan 2011... I never envisaged I'd have the crazy, horrible journey I've had since 2006.

Not sure what to make of the hypnotherapy... I started to get asthmatic through it and was coughing and then had to 'wake up'. She was trying to make me feel calm, so I'm not quite sure how to tell if it worked! (especially just after 1 session). I'm not a very calm person

Oh no!... well hopefully the next time will be better - do you have another appointment? I would second that though - I'm not a calm person either! I loved the first session, but was already feeling very positive (mid cycle good hormones) but the second was a bit hard as she went thru my MC stuff to try and get me to let go of it. Not quite sure what to make of it yet... keep me posted on yours!!
