Ladies doing IUI or IVF - 2016 (11 BFPs so far!)

Jan 1st, 2016, 08:54 AM   #1

Hi ladies

As Blueflower has retired from hosting these threads, I thought I'd start one for 2016 - I've got a feeling I will be here a while!

This is for anyone having any kind of IUI treatment or IVF. You can update us with your progress, ask questions or just have a good old moan if you feel the need. If you're just wanting to ask a question about the treatment - we are very approachable so please ask on here.

Good luck to all the ladies having treatment during 2016 - I hope this is the year for every single one of you, as well as me.

Happy 2016 and sending babydust your way.

Katie. X

To kick things off, I have my hospital appointment on Jan 20th to discuss possible reasons for failure and next steps. I have a list of questions to ask!

Meanwhile, I haven't given up hope of getting that miracle natural BFP. IVF messed up last cycle so this month I'm back on the chromium (love that stuff), started CoQ10, and just today started maca and royal jelly. So hopefully, somehow, it will happen. X

Thanks Phoenixgirl! I feel that one of your frozen embryos will give you a bfp.

Had a chat with DH about the donor option last night and he feels its too soon. Also the donor is 34 so only just qualifies. I feel that this is too good an opportunity to miss and have already waited so long! She is so similar to me and its our local clinic rather than having to travel to London again or abroad. I know its huge and not the same as a child with my own egg but we may never be able to have that. He hasn't said no so maybe I just need to show him I've considered all the options? I've already accepted the nurse appointment ready for when he agrees to it, in case she gets booked up!

Happy new year everyone, I think this will be our year.

I'm still waiting for my appointment date, and we will be going straight into ICSI. In the meantime I'm seeing my gp next week as I I requested vit d testing when I had my last thyroid blood test (don't have a thyroid) and it came back very low. Is there anything else I should ask them to test? He is also a specialist in family planning and medical acupuncture so going to ask him if he thinks I should have it along side and for a recommendation (I'm kind of hoping he will do it at his clinic) we live in a small village and I feel very lucky they are open to giving additional support.

What vitamins do you and your OH's take? X

Laura - wow, that's so soon! Eeekkk! I have sooo many questions listed ready to ask for my appointment lol.

Blueflower - I'm glad you have a good feeling about my frosties. I'm really hoping it happens this year somehow. You HAVE to convince DH to accept the donor - I'd grab that opportunity! It's still your baby!

Tasha - good luck for your ICSI. I'm on the following vitamins:

- Pregnacare Conception (also get it on the 3 for 2 from Boots)
- CoQ10 (started end of last cycle)
- chromium picolinate (for PCOS - helps loads)
- maca (started today - have it in smoothies)
- royal jelly (started yesterday)

I'm also on metformin for PCOS, extra folic acid and vitamin D but these are on prescription.

DH won't take any supplements but he has the smoothies.

Phew! Xxx

Happy new year ladies!
Hope 2016 brings some bfps for us all.

I've started my Progynova tablets am on the 3rd day of them and have had a bit of an upset tummy, not sure if it's linked or not? Has anyone experienced side effects with them? The nurse didn't tell us of any but I had a look on Google and there's lots of ladies who have had side effects so I thought I'd ask here too. Also having some slight cramping.

Hope everyone's well and feeling positive about this year.

My nurse mentioned that there's been some new information about vitamin D being linked to fertility (or something along those lines sorry I can't recall exactly what she said) so she said that if this cycle results in a bfp they will ask me to begin taking vitamin D tablets alongside Progynova and the progesterone pessaries. X

MissJuly - that's interesting about vitamin D. I know for a fact I'm deficient when not on supplements (other tablets I'm on cause it). I'm on prescribed supplements but have always wondered if it's enough.

I just looked up what Progynova was as I didn't know as it's basically oestrogen. So I would think there is a good chance you could get an upset tummy as any hormonal change can cause that.

Good luck! Xxx

I used to be extremely vitamin D deficient, and during that time we were TTC for 3.5 years and I had a m/c - I always wondered if there was a link there.

I started taking lots of vit D supplements and sitting in the sun during the time things worked out for me. Anecdotal but you never know what the thing is that could be causing an underlying problem.

Wishing a million BFPs to you all this year xxx

Hmm I might start the vitamin D now then. That wouldn't cause any adverse effects for an embryo and implantation would it?

I'll have a Google.

Yeah the hormones are causing a few changes! All part and parcel though. Just interested to see what others had experienced.

Hey tinsel cat! *waves*

Tasha - oh right okay thanks. I had a look on google and there was a lot of stuff about it being linked to reproduction, genes, the womb etc... I couldn't explain it because I didn't really get it myself lol but I may go and get some vitamin d. The article said they did a study on women undergoing IVF and observed women with high levels of vitamin d and women with low levels and those with higher level had more success with IVF. They weren't sure if it was strictly down to the vitamin d but it was a difference in the women so...maybe that's why my clinic are now asking ladies to start it if they get a bfp. Would have thought it would make more sense to start it at the beginning of a cycle so the levels already built up? Going to have a look in morrisons and see if I can get some tablets.

I agree with you, best to start taking it before. It will do you no harm at all, only good.

They say most people in the UK are vitamin D deficient due to lack of sunlight (surprise surprise) but it's such an important vitamin. It's better than vitamin C at preventing colds and has loads of other health benefits besides! I got DH to take it for a while and it made him more awake in the mornings. He loved it. I'd tell anyone to take it, ttc or not! Xx
