Digital Ear Themometer

Sep 15th, 2014, 11:34 AM   #1

So a couple of my mum friends have said they wished they had purchased a digital ear themometer as they really struggle/ed to test there babies -toddlers temps with basic ones.

So I saw tommee tippee ear themometer on sale at mothercare this weekend and got it... however it has bad reviews, so will probably take it back but still would like to get one

Can any mums out there recommend a good ear/digital themometer or themometer that they are really happy with... I know there are non contact themometers too.

any tips reviews appreciated.

Thanks

I have the Braun thermascan and it was fab when James was younger but now he is older and wriggles I can get huge variations.

In-fact I only accept the temperature now if it's the same (or to 0.1c) 2 or 3 times in a row.

When he has been ill I've had variations of over a degree meaning I end up taking temp loads...

The Braun one is the one my GP uses though and the one they used in children's A&E and on the children's ward so I guess they must be OK??

After I read your post I had a look at the reviews - tbh, I hadn't looked before, we just got an ear thermometer because we were having lots of trouble with our conventional underarm/under tongue one. With all ear thermometers, you have to make sure you're placing it correctly - maybe the Braun one allows more for positioning errors? I don't know. I have had some really odd readings with my son, but he constantly moves his head! He also has a lot of earwax and that changes the reading. I find my daughter's easier to check as she loves having her temperature taken and will stand/sit still for me.

We have a cheap one from Aldi that does forehead & ear. Think it was about 12 in the baby event. Works well & is easy to use
