Graco evo and snugsafe car seat

Jul 24th, 2014, 12:56 PM   #1

My husband and i love the graco evo and were intending on buying the whole system but reading reviews of the car seat they are all pretty negative and not a lot of confidence in it.
We know don't know whether to go for a different brand of car seat.
I guess what i'm asking is whether it makes a difference having a car seat that fits your pram? We are first time parents and don't really have a clue.

I have a graco evo and I love it! The snugsafe car seat will attach to the frame with the little extra but that comes with it. Tbh as the main part of the pram (dunno what it's called) lies flat, I tend to just lie her in that as it seems comfier! It is also compatible with isofix which is great. Highly recommended x

We were just thinking if we are likely just to out baby in pram then it won't really matter if the car seat is compatible with the pram and we can get a different car seat.
Thanks for your reply!

What are the negative comments? I have the snugsafe with the isofix base and the Evo pushchair and I love mine

It's great, light, easy and affordable! I was never going to pay 500-1000 for a travel system! Once baby is a year old and out of the car seat that can go onto the Evo it's pointless anyway

A lot of mums end up buying a light weight stroller by the time their babies are 2!

I wouldn't - babies fall asleep in car seats- shifting them in and out is hasstle - when they are young dropping the car seat into the frame is a LIFE saver

If you have any back issues whatsoever I wouldn't recommend lifting a car seat in and out with baby in it. We have a car seat that stays in the car and a lightweight pushchair that reclines flat. our LO usually wakes up when the car stops anyway...

We were put off buying a Graco pushchair because of the poor reviews of the car seat. We wouldn't be without a travel system though. Being able to get LO out to the car on the pushchair is much better for my back than lugging the car seat by hand (our driveway is at the back of our house) and means we can easily pop into shops with her without having to unsettle her.

We didn't have a car seat that fitted on our buggy. We never found it a problem when we were out and about with the car, yes we sometimes had to move him when he was asleep, but it didn't really happen that often (at supermarkets we just used the trolleys that you can put the car seat on top of, at friends houses we just took him in the car seat, so it was only if we were doing other shopping in town or going to a National Trust place or something that we had to move him).

However, I did find it a bit of an annoyance when I was on my own because I don't drive - so there were occasions like when I used to get the train back to the town my parent's live in - if I'd had the car seat with us my Mum could have picked us up from the station but because I just had him in a carrycot I had to get the bus back to their house from the station instead. However, if you can drive then this probably isn't such an issue because you could just drive instead of getting the train in the first place!

EDIT: we had a Graco Logico SHP car seat for our son (bought it in 2012 so don't know if they're still available, or if they fit travel systems) and we had no problems with it at all. It was rated pretty highly by Which? as well I seem to remember.

Sorry for the delay in replying. The reviews all said about the seat not being very secure and also issues with harness and the angle the seat sits at means babies head falls forward.
We didn't want to pay a fortune either and love the graco evo. Will probably be going do that just not the cat seat. It wasn't just one negative review as that wouldn't have bothered me but found more negative than positive.
Just hubby and I being paranoid to be honest but we would just worry if we bought that one.

Take all reviews with a pinch of salt.... People will rush to give a bad review but rarely post positive ones (because they're too busy enjoying the product!!) so I always think online reviews don't really give a representative picture of what people think. Iv got the whole graco evo travel system and love it, never had any problems and like bex said it's been a life saver to move LO in it when he's still asleep! When the car seat is sat on the floor u can rock it slightly too which has helped him nod off when out at family etc. it's easy to strap in normally and I couldn't recommend it more! x

If you don't want to spend a fortune I'd say invest in a decent stroller suitable from birth. I don't have experience with this system. But I know from experience that when it becomes heavy or just to big to use with a bigger baby that it's not that great even with all them features. In my experience they really outgrow the carseat to be used on the pram system before they outgrow it in the car. Say for months you only use the carseat for a 5-10 min trip it doesn't matter the carseat looks a bit snug, because it's still the safest way to travel but you wouldn't then leave your child in the seat for longer when you're out cause the child will be uncomfy, or if you do stage up with seat than it's not compatible anymore either and that's when you'll use the stroller on it's own.. For some this is from 6 months for others it can be over a year.. All depending on the size, shape and preferences from your little one!

So what I think is important, what is the actual pram like with the seating part. That's the bit you'll want to get most use out of it, all the others can be out grown at any given time for some earlier than others! With my chunky big boy, I'd say no. But someone whose got a small boy/girl who will use it all longer and it remains easy to push will more likely say yes!

Also consider what you want to do with once you're done with it. Keep in mind that some brands keep their values if you'd sell it on, consider if you want to keep it for a second baby then you might want to get something you're sure on you'll use again. And most importantly go and have a try and feel what it's like! Fold it down, walk it about, click all the things in and see if you think that suits you!

Thanks for everyone's replies. We think we are just going to go for a separate car seat from travel system. The buggy part will be good till they are older so happy with that side of it. Not keen on keeping them in the car seat for long periods anyway.
Thanks again everyone.

Hi Just wondering how you are getting on with Snugsafe seat, We recently brought it but have been reading reviews on mothercare and it is getting hammered with bad reviews. Mainly people saying babys head is leaning forward, just wondered if you have had any problems Many thanks
